Clearing again

Lots of the areas I intended having for flowers have gotten quite overgrown again, so now that I have lots of new plants and others ready to plant out I need to clear spaces again. Six of the ten I got on Saturday prefer moist soil, so I started with the area near the pond that often floods first. It's slow going as it's full of Scutch grass roots even though I spent ages clearing them last Autumn. I have one section ready for planting, but the other side needs more work. I had put some Rose cuttings in here, some that may actually grow are in pots now.

Polemonium Yezoense Purple Rain, 60cm, well drained soil, sun.

Euphorbia Palustris Walenburg's Glorie, 90cm, moist soil, sun.

Persicaria Millettii, 70cm, moist soil, sun or semi-shade. 

Chinese Globeflower. No label, nursery owner from Co. Down said it grows along rivers in Himalayas. A Google search confirmed it likes damp clay soil and grows to about 90cm. Perennial.

Geranium Pratense Midnight Reiter, 30cm, moist, well-drained soil, sun or partial shade.

Lupin Manhattan Nights.

Sambucus Nigra Black Lace, Elderflower, up to 3m in 10 years, any soil, sun or partial shade.

Rodgers is Aesculifolia, 1m, moist soil, partial shade.

Malva Stlvestris Marina, 50cm, well-drained soil, sun.

Astrantia major Claret, 60cm, moist soil, sun or dappled shade.

New plants, bees and potatoes

Coming very close to the end of the early potatoes. This was the biggest one so far.

Last week's Gardener's World had a slug deterring tip from Hosta growers. Boil 2 cloves garlic in 2 pints water and use 1tbs of the solution in 5 pints water. Spray on plants every two weeks. I've tried it on lots of flowers and veg now, will see what happens.
